Enre Marriott Hotel Diesel Generator Project
From "Power Outage = Negative Reviews" to "Five-Star Seamless Power Backup" — A Benchmark Practice
1
Project Background — Their Situation Before We Stepped In
The Enre Marriott Hotel, a luxury five-star hotel in Changsha's core commercial district, integrates guest rooms, fine dining, an international conference center, and underground retail. Before our involvement, its backup power system presented severe operational risks:
• Aging units operating under stress: The original generator set had been in service for over 10 years, with output power attenuated by nearly 20%, unable to simultaneously drive the central AC and all passenger elevators during summer peak loads.
• Poor switching experience: The ATS (Automatic Transfer Switch) was degraded; manual intervention was required after utility failure, with switchover times as long as 45 seconds, causing frequent network and cooling loss in guest rooms and conference halls, triggering numerous VIP complaints.
• Environmental & noise risks: The unit was located on basement level one, with poor heat dissipation and exhaust ventilation, generating noise up to 95 dB, affecting the lobby experience and risking complaints from neighboring commercial complexes.
• No maintenance records: Managed by a part-time electrician, with no standardized inspection process and no mandatory load testing before critical events (weddings, diplomatic meetings), leaving management with zero confidence in backup capability.
2
Tender Purpose & Tender Process
2.1 Tender Purpose
The hotel launched this diesel generator upgrade tender with the core objective of "Building a Benchmark for Uninterruptible Power Supply in an International Five-Star Hotel":
• Absolute reliability: Ensure "zero-perception" switching during VIP receptions, large-scale weddings, and international conferences.
• Compliance & quiet operation: Meet Changsha's strictest urban environmental noise and exhaust emission standards.
• Full life-cycle service: Find a supplier with high-end commercial complex experience to provide long-term managed maintenance.
2.2 Tender Process
• Pre-qualification: Strictly screened integrators with OEM authorization from international Tier-1 brands (Cummins, Perkins) and five-star hotel project references.
• Technical bidding: Key evaluation criteria included "parallel operation scheme," "noise reduction design," and "100% full-load capability within 20 seconds."
• Site survey: We conducted a secondary mapping of the original machine room and discovered a "condensate backflow" hazard in the exhaust pipeline, providing a targeted solution in the bid, which earned bonus points from the evaluation panel.
• Award of contract: We won the comprehensive evaluation with a turnkey package covering "main unit + parallel cabinet + silent environmental engineering," and were awarded the contract.
3
Post-Award Objectives
After winning the bid, the client's purpose was not merely to replace a machine, but to achieve the following through this upgrade:
• Protect top-tier experience: Achieve seamless switching during utility failure, ensuring IT systems, HVAC, and lighting remain uninterrupted, eliminating negative reviews caused by power outages.
• Eliminate hidden risks: Thoroughly resolve heat dissipation, exhaust, and noise issues in the basement machine room, avoiding environmental and safety supervision risks.
• Improve management efficiency: Outsource complex generator management to a professional team, transforming the hotel engineering department from "firefighters" to "supervisors."
4
Why They Found Us
• High-end sector experience: We had already served multiple five-star hotels and top-tier hospitals in Changsha, familiar with the stringent requirements of 24/7 uninterrupted power supply.
• Precise pain-point diagnosis: During the survey phase, we identified design flaws in the original machine room's exhaust system, demonstrating superior technical capability beyond our peers.
• Brand authorization: The Perkins units we supplied came with OEM warranty, and critical spare parts were stocked in our Central China warehouse.
• One-stop delivery: From high-voltage parallel cabinet design and silent enclosure customization to machine room environmental engineering, we possessed full-chain construction qualifications, sparing the client from coordinating multiple parties.

Our Solutions & Recommendations
For the unique requirements of a luxury hotel, we proposed an integrated solution of "High-Reliability Parallel Operation + Silent Environmental Protection + Smart Managed Service":
Dimension
Core Recommendation
Value Proposition
High-Reliability Power
Deploy 2 units of 500kW Perkins generators in an auto-parallel configuration, N+1 redundancy.
If one unit fails, the other automatically carries the full load; total 1000kW easily handles summer peaks.
Ultra-Fast Switching
Upgrade to a full smart ATS system with dedicated auto-start control modules.
Complete start-up, paralleling, and transfer within 8–10 seconds of utility loss — zero flicker for critical zones.
Silent & Heat Management
Custom containerized silent enclosure with sound-absorbing panels and acoustic intake/exhaust ducts.
Noise reduced to below 70 dB (normal conversation level), eliminating noise leakage to the lobby above.
Exhaust Purification
Install DOC + DPF black smoke purifiers and redesign anti-backflow exhaust piping.
Meets downtown environmental standards, eliminates black smoke and odor, protects lobby air quality.
Smart Managed Service
Embed IoT remote monitoring module, integrated into the hotel engineering duty room display.
Real-time monitoring of oil pressure, water temp, battery voltage; auto-generated reports with early fault warnings.
Full Life-Cycle Service
Quarterly inspections + pre-rainy-season air filter replacement + annual load tests + 4-hour on-site SLA.
Shifts from "breakdown repair" to "proactive prevention," maximizing equipment lifespan.
6
Implementation Process
After winning the bid, we developed a strict "zero-disturbance construction" plan to ensure zero impact on hotel operations:
• Off-peak construction: All noisy hoisting and civil works were scheduled between 00:00–05:00; the site was fully restored to cleanliness immediately after each shift.
• Old-unit decommissioning & new-unit positioning: A large crane lifted the old unit out via the预留 hoisting opening; the new unit was hydraulically skidded into place without damaging any hotel finishes.
• Precision installation: Re-poured shock-absorbing concrete foundation, installed double-layer stainless steel corrugated exhaust piping with thermal insulation to prevent burn hazards.
• Full-load testing: Simulated a utility outage during a major international forum hosted at the hotel; successfully completed 100% full-load switchover drill — not a single guest noticed.
• Personnel empowerment: Customized a "Five-Star Hotel Generator SOP Manual" and conducted 3 days of theory + hands-on training to ensure property staff could handle routine operations.
• Digital handover: Delivered a complete digital asset package including as-built drawings, load test videos, ATS switching records, and IoT platform access credentials.

Maintenance Cost Reduction vs. Budget
• Zero power interruptions: Since commissioning, the hotel has experienced multiple utility fluctuations; all critical loads (front desk systems, elevators, cold storage, conference center) achieved seamless switching with zero guest complaints.
• Noise compliance: Third-party testing confirmed noise at just 68 dB outside the machine room, fully compliant with "Social Life Environment Noise Emission Standards" — zero complaints from neighboring businesses.
• Management cost reduction: IoT auto-generated fuel consumption and maintenance reports helped optimize the annual energy budget; maintenance costs reduced by approximately 10%.
• Brand premium: Stable power supply became an invisible asset in the hotel's对外 marketing, helping secure multiple high-profile government and business reception contracts.
• Benchmark effect: The project was rated as Changsha's "Commercial Complex Backup Power Upgrade Demonstration Project," attracting visits from multiple hotels of comparable tier.
"Our biggest fear used to be a midnight blackout with the front desk phone ringing off the hook. Since installing this system, even if the utility goes down, guests probably won't notice a thing. This kind of 'silent reliability' is exactly the backend support a five-star hotel needs."
